We Can Remember For You (short story) - Week 10 Multiverse

When it comes to the Multiverse sub genre of Science fiction its known that the theme is to find purpose of where one belongs. The short story “We Can Remember For You” by Philip K. Dick is about a married man who longs to belong, he seems lost in the world believing he belongs on Mars. Without spoiling the good parts it’s later found that he actually does and it has been hidden from him. It hits that he forever in a loop of remembering and forgetting his true self.
For creators the idea of Multiverse open up the doors to many different plot points. New contemporary media are now using multiverses to create stronger world building. Shows like Rick and Morty would be considered under this genre. In that show the sub genre uses the divine as a way to prolong the life of the show. Just as many comics do. When anything is possible in alternate detentions and universe you can use the same characters in thousand of different narrative. To create more the one world in one narrative makes also it so fans can find them selves through other forms of representation. Even older shows like Star Trek have fans that relate more strongly to the broad range of aliens in the different multiverses then the human characters they are presented with. Walk in any convention that would have a collection of Star Trek fans you could find more valcan then human cosplayers. It’s a fun and engaging way to involve a larger audience. It lends it self to being better received by the public.
